Blueberry Basil Margarita: Summer in a Glass
The humidity is already pushing 100%, the thermometer is racing toward the 90s before lunch, and my Spotify playlist is serving up soft rock favorites that instantly slow the pace of the day. The porch fans are spinning, and cocktail season has officially arrived.
As summer settles in, I find myself reaching for drinks that are fresh, vibrant, and easy to enjoy. This Blueberry Basil Margarita checks every box. It combines juicy blueberries, fragrant basil, bright lime, and smooth tequila into a cocktail that feels both refreshing and a little bit special.
The blueberries bring a touch of sweetness and a gorgeous color, while the basil adds a garden-fresh twist that makes this margarita stand out from the crowd. It’s the kind of cocktail that pairs perfectly with a backyard gathering, a lazy afternoon on the patio, or simply unwinding after a long day.

Recipe from Liquid Playlists
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Tequila Blanco
1/2 oz quality triple sec
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Blueberries+fresh basil leaves (muddle + garnish)
Sea salt + lime zest (optional rim)
Directions:
Prep your glass by running a lime around the rim and dipping in sea salt+lime zest (optional)
Muddle 8-10 blueberries with 2-3 basil leaves and simple syrup in a shaker.
Add tequila, triple sec, and lime juice.
shake with ice for 5-10 seconds
Strain into your prepared glass over fresh ice
Garnish with blueberries and basil leaves.
Tip: Do not over muddle your basil-it can turn bitter.
A Few Final Sips:
One of the things I love most about this margarita is how effortlessly it captures the flavors of summer. The combination of ripe berries, fresh herbs, and citrus feels bright and cooling, even when the Florida heat is doing its best to convince you otherwise.
So turn up your favorite playlist, find a shady spot on the porch, and pour yourself a glass. Summer won’t wait, and neither should you.

Oh Velva, what a delightful way to welcome the hot days of summer with such a refreshing (and pretty) cocktail, along with some very poetic verse on the arrival of hot and steamy days. We have had unusually cool temps just north of you, but once the heat hits, we’ll have it until September. Would this cocktail work as well with vodka instead of tequila? We have a steady supply of it and rarely have tequila.
Hugs and cheers to you,
Roz
