Water is for Ducks
PUBLISHED ON: 10.22.2009
This month we joined our wine loving friends for our monthly wine club event. The focus this evening was discovering Washington State wines.
Washington State is the second-largest fine wine producing state next to California. Oregon is third. Many of the quality Washington State wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, and at half the price of a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Need I say more? For those of you who enjoy a good Cabernet Sauvignon, I encourage you to explore these wines. You will not be disappointed.
Here are some food highlights from our wine tasting evening.
Baked Italian Style Meatballs
Rolled Flank Steak Stuffed with Cheese and Spinach
Baked Mozzarella Mini-Tarts

That is one slick looking spread of appies and the wine – wowie! Velva, you ought to send photos and write up a little something for Tallahassee magazine. This would be great.
Could swear I left a comment when this first came out… Chez Velva is an understatement…I would volunteer, or pay you to be part of your staff at this party, just so I could nibble on these delish foods behind the scenes :
The Absence of Alternatives
*drool* There's smoke coming from my keyboard from when my drool hit it. I love all the pictures you took! Feast for the eyes and imagination. (And I *heart* the title for this post. Water is for ducks indeed! We have tried several bottles from WA. They are good. No complaints here.
meatballs and steak rolls, oh my! i don’t drink wine, but buddy, i’d eat that food!
Those goodies look so good, I was amazed by each one, and the wines must have been wonderful, I love tasting new wines, although I haven't found one yet from Oregon or Washington I like better than the California wines. I have to keep tasting!
I spent 8 years in Seattle and went to UW for college. Last week there was an alumni event in Washington DC that I attended and the representatives brought wine: DELICIOUS. I had the white variety, but sadly can't rememember the name. Also, those steak roll-ups look AWESOME.
What a HUGE amount of food! The stuffed flank steak looks terrific. I wish I could of been there to eat all that wonderful food….

Velva, what a fun blog you have! I'm so glad you visited my blog, and now I have discovered yours. I would love to see the recipes for your party food. Also, I love the idea of a wine club!
My favorites were the meatballs and the mozzarella cups, but they are all delicious looking.
YOu have the best get togethers! I bet you're really fun and a wine club sounds fantastic. A lot of us here in Italy do that, but mostly just with Italian wines, since that's pretty much all you get here…hardhsip, huh? lol. Still, I'm looking forward to checking out some stateside wines.
